NCHSAA State Championship

The 2013 NCHSAA State Championship was held this past Saturday at Beeson Park in Kernersville, NC.  Senior Becca Meshaw and Junior Kyle Christ both advanced from the Mideast Regionals to compete in the Championship race.  Becca placed 38th overall out of 130th girl runners and finished with a time of 19:17.34.  Kyle placed 13th overall out of 129th boy runners and finished with a time of 15:55.94.

NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional

NCHSAA 4A Mideast regional was held at MakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, NC this past Saturday morning. 

West Johnston boys ran at 10 AM and finished overall 10th out of 23 high school teams qualified.  The first runner crossing the finishing line for West was Junior, Kyle Christ.  He finished 13th with a time of 15:46.04. With this new personal best time Kyle grabs the top 5th record holder spot for West Johnston boys’ runner to date.  Finishing 45th was Adam Greco with a time of 16:57.92. Seth Byrd finished 67th with a time of 17:41.34.  Rufus Brown finished 85th with a time of 18:00.50.  Chris Perez finished 104th with a time of 18:43.06.  Javier Hernandez finished 130th with a time of 19:49.92 and Bryson Hall finished 131st with a time of 19:50.62.

The girls ran at 11 AM and finished overall 7th out of 20 high school teams qualified.  Senior, Becca Meshaw lead the girls team with a 12th place finish with a time of 19:12.97.  Robin Pollard finished 24th with a time of 19:54.30.  Lauren Humane finished 39th with a time of 20:25.47.  Patricia Patterson finished 59th with a time of 21:07.61.  Taylor Wilkens finished 74th with at time of 21:52.04.  Rachel Willis finished 87th with a time of 22:10.57 and Taylor Johnson finished 90th with a time of 22:16.81.

NCHSAA 4A Championship will be held on November 2nd in Kernersville, NC.

Greater Neuse River 4A Conference

West Johnston was able to dominant the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference cross country championships again this year. The West Johnston girls won their seventh straight team title. The boys have won the title in every season since 2004 except 2011 when the Clayton Comet’s edged them out.  Winning individual titles went to Senior Becca MeShaw and Junior Kyle Christ for finishing first. The Coach of the year honors went to Patrick Shaw.  Now the team moves onward to 4A regional’s.

Wendy’s Invitational

The Wendy’s Invitational was held this past Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.  This course is a favorite for many cross country runners because it’s fast allowing for them to set a personal best record.  

Here’s how the wildcat boy’s finished this past weekend: Kyle Christ (15:59), Stephen Blach (17:50), Ben Meshaw (18:00), RJ Brown (18:13), Chris Perez (18:31), Michael Doty (18:55), Jesus Rodriquez (19:38), Noah Walker (20:44), Bryson Hall (20:48), and Noah Steffens (21:00).

Here’s how the wildcat girl’s finished:  Lauren Hermane (19:57), Robin Pollard (20:53), Taylor Wilkins (22:34) Taylor Johnson (22:34), Taylor Steffens (24:25), Allie Sekulich (24:28), Jackie Koger (25:31), and Samantha Garcia (32:09).

Tuesday, October 15th, the team will compete in the Greater Neuse River Conference Championship finals held in Wendell Park.  Come out and support the team.

Greensboro XC Invitational

30th Annual Greensboro XC Invitational was held a Hagan Stone Park this past Saturday, September 28th.  West Johnston was one of the many high schools participating in this event.

The following boys competed in the Boy’s Championship race.  The first wildcat to cross the line was Kyle Christ with a time of 16:08, followed by Adam Greco (17:09), Ben Meshaw (18:17), Stephen Belch (18:18), RJ Brown (18:49), Chris Perez (18:51) and Michael Doty (20:15).

The following girls competed in the Girl’s Championship race.  The first wildcat to cross the line was Becca Meshaw with a time of 19:09, followed by Lauren Hermane (20:40), Robin Pollard (21:30), Patricia Paterson (22:25), Taylor Wilkins (23:13), Taylor Johnson (23:24), and Alexis Kenny (27:28).

The following wildcats completed in the developmental race.  In the boys race was Alex Porter who finished with a time of 24:24.  In the girls race Taylor Steffens finished with a time of 24:24 and Amber Mayberry finished with a time of 27:54.

The next race will be Wednesday, October 2 hosted by East Wake and ran a Wendell Park.  Come out and support all the runners.

Adidas XC challenge

The team arrived at the event under cloudy skies and a wet course from recent rain fall.  This course is a known for it’s challenging finish running up hill.  The team faired well.

In the Boy’s Championship race the guys finished with the following times:   Kyle Christ 16:23,  Adam Greco 17:06, Seth Byrd 18:09, RJ Brown 18:23, Stephen Belch 18:40, Chris Perez 19:17, Michael Doty 19:32.

In the Girl’s Championship race the ladies finished with the following times:   Becca Meshaw 19:20, Lauren Hermane 20:02, Robin Pollard 21:05, Taylor Wilkens 23:05, Taylor Johnson 24:30,  Allie Sekulich 26:02, Jackie Koger 26:07.

In the Boy’s JV race the guys finished with the following times:   Bryan Hall 20:16, Jevier Hernandez 21:13, Alex Porter 21:40.

The next conference meet is this Wednesday, September 25th, hosted by Knightdale Knights.  Come out and support the Wildcats.

West will be participating in a local Invitational tomorrow, Adidas Cross Country Challenge, at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.  Come out and support the team.

West host’s XC Conference meet

West Johnston get’s ready to defend their Greater Neuse River conference title from last year as they host today’s conference meet. They will be running against Clayton, Garner, and East Wake for the first meet of the season.

Wildcat runners Kyle Christ and Becca Meshaw lead the team with a first place finish.

The West men’s team placed first, Garner team finished second, Clayton team finished third, and East Wake placed last. For the Women’s team Clayton finished first, followed closely by West in second, and Garner finished third and East Wake last.

The team ran a steady pace with the following times:

Seahawks Invitational

Saturday morning brought suuny skies and 81 degree weather for the Seahawk Invitational. The Boys placed 13th in the Men’s Championship race and the Girls finished 14th in the the Women’s Championship.

In the Men’s Championship race Kyle Christ lead the team with a 13th place finish with a time of 16:37. Greco Adams finished 51st with a time of 17:26. Crossing closely behind Greco was Jonathan Bryd taking 52nd place with a time of 17:26. Ben Meshaw finished 91st with a time of 18:24. RJ Brown finished 110th place with a time of 18:49. Stephen Blatch finished 117th with a time of 19:01 and Chris Perez finished 139th with a time of 20:25.

In the Men’s JV race Michael Doty ran 20:22, Hernandez Javier ran 21:56, Noah Walker ran 22:24 and Alex Porter ran 22:51.

In the Women’s Championship race Becca Meshaw lead the team with a 19th finish with a time of 19:52. Lauren Humane finished 47th with a time of 20:57. Robin Pollard finished 94th with a time of 22:21. Patricia Patterson finished 104th with a time of 22:43. Taylor Johsnons finished 132nd with a time of 24:36. Allie Sekuilch finished 141st with a time of 25:50 and Jackie Koger finished 143rd with a time of 26:15.

Taylor Steffens ran in the JV race with a time of 26:22.

During Friday’s collegiate race West Johnson Alumni Ashley Matthews finished 2nd place for the Campbell Camels with a time of 18:33. Dakota Foskey finished 11th with a time of 19:32.for the Wilmington Seahawks. In the men’s race Eric Baldwin finished 6th with a time of 16:10 for the Campbell Camels.

West Johnston harriers will host a conference meet this Wednesday. Come out and support the runners. Go Wildcats!

UNC Wilmington

The team will be traveling to Wilmington on Friday to compete in the 26th running of the Adidas Seahawk Cross Country Invitational which will be held on the campus of UNCW on Saturday morning.  The team will walk or jog the course Friday afternoon sometime between 2:00pm and 6:00pm.  At 6 pm the team will have the opportunity to watch and cheer for the college runners racing the same course they will be running the next day.  West Alumni runners Dakota Foskey and Maegan Weeks, West’s class of 2012, will be running in the event for UNCW Seahawks.  From West’s class of 2010, Eric Baldwin and Ashley Matthews will be running for Campbell UniversityCamels. 

On Saturday morning runners from high schools across the Carolina’s will flock to UNC Wilmington’s campus to participate and cheer for each other during the following 8 races.

The Awards Ceremony for all races will be at 12:00pm and will be held in the bleachers of the soccer facility. Race T-shirts will be sold at the tent near the Sports Med Building, beside the team camp area to commemorate the event. The price is $15, so don’t wait if you’re interested they go fast.
